Newcastle University – Applied Linguistics and Communication
The Applied Linguistics and Communication department has an international reputation for teaching and research in a range of areas related to language in use and communication, from a wide variety of research approaches, including discourse and interaction analysis, social psychology, and ethnography.
It offers postgraduate degrees in Applied Linguistics & Teaching English to Speaking of Other Languages, and in Cross-Cultural Communication, as well as a PhD programme in Applied Linguistics.
In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, Applied Linguistics and Communication was positioned 6th out of 57 similar units nationally for research power, with 69.3 % of outputs judged as internationally excellent or world leading.
